Hugo WeavingName: Hugo Wallace Weaving

Date of Birth: April 4, 1960

Hometown: Ibadan, Nigeria

Education: Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art

Hugo Weaving was born to English parents Anne, a tour guide, and Wallace, a seismologist. His family moved back and forth between South Africa, the UK, and Australia throughout his childhood and adolescence. He was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 13, and because of this, made the decision to never drive or get a driver's license. After graduating from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1981, he started appearing in various Australian television miniseries. Some of his most popular film roles include: the voice of Rex the sheepdog (Babe), Agent Smith (The Matrix + sequels), Elrond (Lord of the Rings trilogy), V (V for Vendetta), and the voice of Megatron (Transformers + sequels). He's currently in filming for a part as a British officer with claustrophobia in the movie Beneath Hill 60. This role was written specifically for Weaving, as he also suffers from claustrophobia.

hugo weavingWeaving lives with his wife, Katrina Greenwood, and two children, Harry and Holly. He is a primary spokesman for an animal rights group in Australia called "Voiceless". He's won three Australian Film Institute Awards (the Australian equivalent of an Academy Award) for "Best Actor in a Lead Role".

Hugo will be reprising his role of Elrond of Rivendell in The Hobbit, which is scheduled to begin film production in Spring, 2010.
